William “Bill” E. Triest, Jr, 72, passed away on Wednesday June 14, 2023 at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, Ohio.
Bill was born on February 16. 1951 in Washington D.C, the son of the late William E. and Patricia (McKeon) Triest. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Johns Hopkins in Biophysics. He continued his education at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, earning an M.D. and specializing in pathology. Bill worked as a pathologist for 42 years before retiring from the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington, WV in 2018. During his career he served as the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Bill and his wife Carolyn moved to Punta Gorda, FL after he retired from the V.A. Both avid gardeners, they became Master Gardeners and enjoyed utilizing their new expertise in Florida, where they transformed their property. Bill’s other interests included reading, biking, model trains, and sailing. Bill and Carolyn moved to Lancaster, OH last fall.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Carolyn (Jeffers) Triest; his children Rebecca Denning and husband Joseph of WV, William Triest III and wife Carley of OH, and Meaghan Schoensiegel of KY; and ten grandchildren; his siblings Robert Triest and wife Katie of MA, Pam Trist-Hallahan and husband Bill of NH, Mark Triest and wife Sherry of MA; his brother-in-law Wayne Jeffers; his cousin Sandy Folsom; and several nephews and nieces.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 19 at Maple Grove Cemetery, 4185 Cincinnati-Zanesville Road, Lancaster, OH 43130.
