William Raver, Jr

William “Bill” Franklin Raver, Jr., age 74, left this earth to travel home to be with the Lord on October 30, 2012 at the Pickering House, in Lancaster, Ohio after a hard fought battle with cancer and other complications. Bill was born on May 30, 1938, a lifetime resident of Baltimore, Ohio, a 1956 graduate of Liberty Union High School, won the Grand Champion Award for his Cow at the Ohio State Fair, attended classes at Ohio University, and was a member of the US Army Band where he played tuba.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth Fritz and William Raver Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Patricia (Westenhouser), daughters Tia (Jay) Zimmerman and Miette (Dan) Menzel; son, Shan (Kelley) Raver. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Alehia, Merica, Alexa, and Zander, and his great grandson, Haiden.
Bill was a wonderful husband, father, and role model and was always wearing a huge smile. He loved people, laughing, telling jokes, and eating peanuts, ice cream, and drinking chocolate milk. Bill never met a stranger, he and his family could not even travel out of Ohio without running into someone that he knew. He loved cars and considered himself a jack of all trades, master of none. He adored and cherished all of his grandchildren and great grandson. His lap was a welcome place to sit and learn or be cuddled. He loved attending anything his grandchildren were involved in to show his support and will be missed at these events. He was a big teddy bear.
Bill’s legacy will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandson. He passed on a passion for life, love, perseverance, and even his jokes.
Caring Cremation has taken place through the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home. Family and friends may call on Friday from 5PM until 8PM. A Memorial Mass will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pickering House, 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
