William "Bill" Cunningham

William Strode “Bill” Cunningham, age 89 of Lancaster died June 13th, 2016 at the Pickering House. He was born March 29, 1927, the seventh child of Henry B. and Emma E. (nee Hampshire) Cunningham. He was a 1945 graduate of Lancaster High School and a 1951 graduate of Miami University, Oxford Ohio. Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII and was discharged as a Staff Sargent. Bill received many awards and special recognitions throughout his career as an executive in sales and marketing for the glass and plastic industries. In later years he owned and operated a printing business in Leesburg, Florida.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jeannine (nee Noble), daughter, Carol (Tom) Daubenmire of Loveland, OH., stepson, Judd (Mary Lou) Hauenstein of Pickerington, OH and stepdaughter, Dr. Jane (Jeff) Claes of Carrollton, TX., grandchildren, Philip (Michelle) Daubenmire, Kevin (Marissa) Daubenmire, Stuart (Catherine) Daubenmire, and Elizabeth (Joey) Haselmayer, step-grandson, Kurt Hauenstein, step-granddaughters Kristin (Josh) Nungesser and Melissa (Paul) Winans, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Also survived by stepsons, Doug (Lori) Nixon of Kauneonga, NY and Richard Middleton of Addison,TX; step-grandchildren Cory and Nicole Nixon, Alex and Blake Middleton; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Also by special friends Dr. Kenneth and Jean Clemens of Lima, OH.

Bill was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Ann (nee Spencer) Hauenstein and first wife, Johann (nee McDavitt). Brothers, Gail, Paul and John; and sisters, Harriett (Frasch), Edna (Thimmes) and Ida Mae (Klarman).

Bill enjoyed all sports, especially basketball during March Madness, and traveled to different cities with friends to watch the games. He was a huge OSU Buckeye fan and enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Elks, the Jaycees and Olivedale.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Brookdale, Pickering House and caregiver, Penny, of AlternaCare.

Caring Cremation™ has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30AM at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home on Saturday June 25th with Rev. Cheryl Foulk officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow at Forest Rose Cemetery. Calling hours will take place at the funeral home from 5PM until 7PM on Friday, June 24th, and one hour prior to the service.
