Virginia Irene Tanner

Virginia “Sis” Irene Tanner 90 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, January 2, 2025. 

She is survived by her children Deborah Austin and Robert (Christina) Tanner; grandchildren Carl (Rhonda) Headley, Tabbitha (Aaron) Prentice, Shad Austin, Jillian (Anthony) Papio and Maggie (Hunter) Ricketts, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Haney, Ruth Cochenour, Kay Hendricks and Patricia (Jim) Sayre.

Sis is preceded in death by her husband Robert, granddaughter Bobbie Jean, parents John and Alma Leonard and siblings James, Jack, Joseph, Carol and Diane.

Sis was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church and spent several decades as their preschool Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed volunteering for Lifewise and providing in-home care to the elderly.

Throughout her life, she was a person of perseverance, selflessness, dependability and dignity; A West Virginia native. Sis had a great love for those hills and was always homesick for them. Be at peace, Sis. May you feel the loving embrace of our Savior and never know homesickness again.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Borland officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends may visit Wednesday from 2-6 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 and one hour prior the service at the church on Thursday.
