BALTIMORE – Vickie Joan Ellinger (Crawford), 72, loving mother, grandmother, and wife, passed away peacefully at her home on February 7, 2024, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Vickie was born on May 4, 1951, in New Albany, Indiana and moved to Logan, Ohio at the age of 5, where she met her husband of 53 years, Roger “Lonnie” Ellinger. Lonnie said he knew he would marry her the first time they met. Vickie graduated from Logan High School in 1969 and moved to Columbus to pursue her dream of being a nurse. Vickie and Lonnie married on November 28, 1970. In 1972, she graduated from Grant School of Nursing, and was awarded the Order of the Lamp, as the top nursing student in her class. Vickie touched the lives of countless patients, mothers, babies, families, and colleagues during her distinguished nursing career, working in labor and delivery, mother infant units, and as a lactation consultant. She worked at Grant Hospital, for Dr. Anthony Ruppersburg, and at Mount Carmel until she retired in 2012. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, reading, and watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities. She was a 4-H leader and proud of the group's achievements. Vickie was a past member of Fairview United Methodist, Holy Redeemer Lutheran, Epiphany Lutheran, and Christ United Methodist Church.
Vickie is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Gaynell (Bates) Crawford and Elmer and Ruby (Cloud) Bates and sisters Elinda (Freeman) Wing and Kathleen (Crawford) Inboden.
Vickie is survived by her husband Roger “Lonnie” Ellinger, her children Dusty (Janine) Ellinger, Cory Ellinger, Michelle (Charles) Savage, Amy Verdugo, and beloved grandchildren Hannah, Jacob, Noah, Holden, Mallory, Marcos, Ava, Emma, and Anthony. She is also survived by her sister Alexis Jane (McIntire) Robinson; Brothers Ron (Dorothy) Crawford, Larry (Deb) Crawford, and Rick (Kendra) Crawford.
The funeral service will be held at Johnson-Smith Funeral Home, 207 S. Main St. Baltimore, OH 43105, Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM, with Dan Crawford presiding. Calling hours will be Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 5:00 - 8:00PM, and one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the countless friends, family, and nursing co-workers for their endless support. The stories of Vickie’s humor, compassion, and selflessness are priceless. We also thank the caregivers of Right at Home Columbus and Hospice of Central Ohio for the care and support they provided to Vickie and family.
