Verna Messerly

Verna K. Messerly, age 96 of Baltimore, OH died July 21, 2016 at Carriage Court in Lancaster, OH.
She was born Oct. 2nd, 1919 in Basil, OH to the late Homer W. and Christina J. (Murray) Schoffner. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Basil Garden Club, VFW#3761 Ladies Auxiliary, and was inducted into the 2012 Liberty Union Hall of Fame for service to and for the Athletic Dept. She retired in 1982 from Liberty Union-Thurston Schools with 30 years service as a cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann (Ron) Bibler and son, J V. (Gail L. Hayes) Messerly all of Baltimore; grandchildren, Brian Bibler of Baltimore and Brett (Mary) Bibler of Olathe, KS; great grandchildren, Curtis Milam, Anthony, Eric, Austin, and Allison Bibler; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Donna Schoffner and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gilmer "Gump" Messerly in 2000; brothers and sisters, Albert, Wesley, Wilson, Norman, Marie, Irene, Louise, Homer "Johnny", Murray, and Ruth.

The family would like to thank the Carriage Court and FairHoPe for the care they provided to Verna.

A service will take place on Tuesday at 10:30 AM at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, officiated by Rev. Jill Dunlap. Interment will follow the service at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4PM until 7PM at the funeral home.
