Velma Dunford 81 went to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, February 5, 2011, surrounded by her loving husband and friends, at the HPH Hospice in Dade City, Florida.
Velma was born on August 29, 1929 in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia to the late Albert and Rachel Campbell. She was a graduate of North High School in Columbus, Ohio and was baptized in 1977 at the Independent Baptist Church in Johnstown, Ohio.
On June 30, 1962, Velma married Clarence “CD” Dunford. Velma and CD made their home in Johnstown, Ohio where they raised three children. Employment opportunities took Velma and CD around the United States to Roswell, New Mexico; Brownsville, Texas; Albany New York and then Zephyrhills, Florida in 1995.
She was a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed serving the Lord in the Awana Clubs and Pioneer Girls Club. Velma’s strong Christian faith sustained her and lifted up those around her.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Clarence “CD”; son, Bill (Eva) Stiles of Johnstown, Ohio; daughters, Jackie (Carl) Farabee and Donna (David) Gray both of Delaware, Ohio; 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Fay Hobin of Covina, California and Clydie Kauser of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral service will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 10:30 am at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 207 S. MAIN ST., BALTIMORE, OHIO 43105 with Pastor Michael Herbert of Walnut Creek Baptist Church officiating. Burial to follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Johnstown, Ohio. Friends may visit Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial service will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 4724 Fox Ridge Blvd., Wesley Chapel, Florida at the convenience of the family.
