Thomas Edgar Thayer, 85, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013. He was born June 3rd, 1928, in Fairport, New York.

Tom was the only child of Carlton E. And Louise Thayer. Tom married the former Betty Braisted of Montclair, New Jersey on October 15, 1950.

Tom and Betty had three children, Louise (Gene) Thayer-Lee of Richmond, Virginia, Jeffrey C. (Susan) Thayer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Constance (Evans) Hand of Lancaster; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and a fifth great grandchild due in September.

Tom retired to Raleigh, North Carolina in 1994 after a varied career in banking and finance in New York City and Buffalo, New York. He also enjoyed many entrepreneurial ventures and management consulting opportunities. Tom and Betty enjoyed traveling and enjoyed visiting many out of the ordinary places including Easter Island, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, Africa, and the western deserts of China, including the Silk Road.

Tom was a graduate of Hobart College in Geneva, New York and served as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After obtaining his M.B.A. from New York University, he began his career with the Chemical Bank of New York. Tom enjoyed the last two years of his life living near his daughter and son-in-law in Lancaster.

Tom’s wife Betty preceded him in death in July of 2011.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4th, at First Presbyterian Church, 222 N Broad Street in Lancaster with Reverend Matthew Richardson officiating. Family will receive friends after the service at 4:00 p.m. in the Colonial Room of the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Tom to the West After School Program, 620 Garfield Ave, Lancaster, Ohio 43130
