Thomas W. Simmons, Sr., 85, of Lancaster, died on Monday, June 24, 2013.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He retired as maintenance supervisor for Lancaster City Schools in 1989 after 26 years of service and served as a Hocking Township Trustee. The Mule Man's true passion was the Fairfield County Fair. While serving as a Director on the Fair board for many years, Tom started the annual Mule Races, was instrumental in the construction of the AAA Building, and supported all things 4-H.
Tom is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen L. Simmons; children, Tom (Linda) Simmons, Jr. and Linda (Howard) Bozman; grandchildren, Scott and Christine Simmons, Matt and Mina Bozman, and Mitch Bozman; and five great grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan and Mary Simmons and sisters, Roena and Myrna.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2013, at the Fairfield County Fairgrounds, AAA Building, 157 E Fair Ave, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Private interment at a later date in Green Mound Cemetery, Lancaster. Arrangements completed through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home.
