Thomas L. Mort

November 5, 1949 — May 22, 2024

Lancaster

Thomas L. Mort, a man known for his impeccable work ethic and unwavering dedication to his craft, has bid farewell after a valiant battle with Pick's Disease. Born on November 5, 1949, in Pittsburgh, PA, Thomas transitioned from this world on May 22, 2024, in Lancaster, Ohio.

Renowned for his prowess in concrete work and a proud member of the Local #373 Union, Thomas exemplified diligence and skill in all his endeavors. Working alongside his father, brothers, and uncle Rich, he left an indelible mark with his craftsmanship. His daughters held a special place in his heart, serving as his proudest accomplishments in life.

In addition to his professional achievements, Thomas was a dedicated family man and a beacon of support for those he loved. His legacy lives on through the love he shared with his devoted wife of 51 years, Debby Mort; daughters Michelle (Scott) Vayansky and Kristy (Eric) Winkler; and cherished grandchildren Cameron (Noelle) Vayansky, Megan Vayansky, and Dylan Winkler.

Thomas's wit and humor were legendary among those who knew him best. Quick with a joke and always ready to bring smiles to the faces around him, he had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met. Whether watching his grandchildren play sports or engaging in spirited banter about the Pittsburgh Steelers (while teasingly calling out Ben Roethlisberger), Thomas's lively spirit lit up every room he entered.

He greatly enjoyed fishing and camping with the love of his life, playing billiards for Bucky's pool League in Herminie. PA, and being partners with his daughters on numerous football squares. Tom was also known to leave a message or two about his grandkids' performances on the field, track, or court.

Among those who shared Thomas's journey were surviving family members: brother Roy Mort; sisters Audrey "Jean" Mort and Cynthia Mort; numerous sisters and brothers in law; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion Max the dog.

While Thomas leaves behind cherished memories and an irreplaceable imprint on the hearts of many, he is reunited in peace with infant daughter M. Marie Mort, parents George and Audrey Mort, brother Edmund Mort, sister Pamela Mort—leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure through the ages.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the special caregivers, nurses and dad's roommate Bill who will always hold a place in our hearts.
