Thomas Tom Orville Kyer, Jr., devoted husband, loving father and friend, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, August 6, 2015 after an incredible and valiant battle with cancer. Toms faith, along with countless prayers, love and care of family and friends provided unbelievable support throughout the past 5 months.
Tom Kyer Jr. was born on March 24, 1962 to Mary M. Kyer (deceased) and Thomas O. Kyer (deceased). Brother to Vicki (Mike) Goebel of Columbus, OH, Hershel (Melissa) Gray, Connie Burchwell, Shirley Pittenger all of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Charles (Cindy) Kyer of South Charleston, Ohio. Tom graduated from Union Scioto High School in Chillicothe, Ohio. On April 8, 1989 he married the love of his life and dedicated wife of 26 years, Trisha Kyer (Haning). After living briefly in Chillicothe, OH, Tom and Trisha returned to Lancaster, OH where they proudly raised their family that includes, son, Thomas Tommy O. Kyer III, and daughter, Tori J. Kyer and their 2 dogs Zane and Kisses.
Tom was a car enthusiast. He thoroughly enjoyed testing the speedometer in any and every car he could get his hands on. Other than an icy cold coke all day long, that was of his many enjoyments in life. In fact, one of his favorite places to show off his driving skills could be witnessed on the Sea Pines Circles in Hilton Head Island, SC. There he could often be heard encouraging bicycle riders to Stay on the bike path! His passion for cars led him to work with, as he described, The best business hed ever been associated with. That being Bob Boyd Ford in Lancaster, OH.
As much as Tom appreciated his work, nothing compared to how much he enjoyed spending time getting involved with projects with his family. Whether it was spending quality time shopping with Tori, especially on their Black Friday adventures, or restoring an old jeep with Tommy, he simply loved being with them. At the very top of that list was the annual family vacation to the beach. Toms caring nature, sense of humor, ability to turn a stranger into a friend and love for family have provided a gift to all of us that will undoubtedly endure time.
In addition to his wife Trisha, son Tommy and daughter Tori, Tom is survived by 24 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews. Other family members carrying on Toms legacy include, cousins, Mike (Debbie) Rhodes, Carolyn Rhodes, and in-laws Bruce (Sandi) Haning, Tim Haning, Tom (Mindy) Haning, Charles (Tammy) Tolley, Rich (Tracy) Bowlen.
The family is deeply grateful for the continuous outpouring of love, prayers, and support through so many heart-felt forms from their entire community of friends and loved ones. Additionally, special thanks to The James Cancer Hospital and FairHoPe Hospice Pickering House for the kindness and genuine care and concern during this difficult time.
As our family approaches the next coming days, months and years, we invite you to join us in remembrance of a life well lived, a husband deeply loved, a father greatly missed, a family member never to be forgotten and friend who cared about each of us with his whole heart.
