Thomas "Tom" Aken Haning
LANCASTER: Thomas "Tom" Aken Haning, devoted husband, loving father and friend, joined his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 20, 2017.
Tom Haning was born on February 4th, 1960, to Sandra "Sandi" Aken Haning and the late,Charles "Bruce" Haning. Tom is survived by beloved wife of 22 years, Mindy (Skinner) Haning of Lancaster, OH and by his sons, Marshall A. Haning, Jacob M. (Patrice R.) Haning and Grandson, Eli M. Haning. Mother-in-law Marlene Skinner, brother to Tim Haning, Tammy (Charles) Tolley, Trisha (Haning) Kyer and Tracy (Rich) Bowlen all of Lancaster, OH. He will also be missed by his four-legged day companion Apollo.
He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1978 and received an athletic scholarship for basketball to the College of Wooster. After attending college, he went into business with his father whom he respected above all others. As a third-generation owner of Haning's Heating and Cooling, he found purpose and pride serving the community he grew up in. He raised his two sons on an 80-acre farm outside of Bremen Ohio where he instilled in them the qualities they would need to succeed.
He enjoyed coaching little league basketball, watching the buckeyes, and meeting new people. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Pine Lake Estates, and Angler's Paradise. He made friends easily and stayed loyal through it all. Wherever he was, he had a corny saying to lighten the mood and put a smile on the faces of those he was with. He always took care of his family, his mother and father and four siblings, and would drop everything for those he loved and cared for. Famous for his holiday brisket and homemade noodles, his cooking was often sought after.
He respected hard work and honesty and would give anyone the shirt off his back if they needed it. He always said, "those who die with the most friends wins". Though it was in his own way, he loved God and spoke with him often.
Tom is also survived by eight nieces and nephews and three great nieces and nephews.
The family is deeply grateful for the continuous outpouring of love, prayers, and support through so many heart-felt forms from their entire community of friends and loved ones. As our family approaches the next coming days, and months, we invite you to join us in remembrance of a life well lived, a husband deeply loved, a father greatly missed, a family member never to be forgotten and friend who cared about each of us with his whole heart.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 25th at 10:30AM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME. A committal service will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, August 24th from 2-4pm and again from 6-8pm and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
