Tessie McCoy Akers

Tessie M. (McCoy) Akers, 94, of Lancaster, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. She was greeted at the gates of Heaven, “Well done, my good and faithful one”. 

Tessie met the love of her life and beloved husband of 58 years, Bud Akers, Jr. Tessie was a loving Mother to her children and a Mammy to her grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending her evenings in the word of scripture. Tessie loved watching westerns, and was an avid sports fan. Come Saturday she would be dressed in scarlet and gray rooting on her Buckeyes. She also was the best dressed Mammy in town, rocking her red high heels and sparkly fingernails. Tessie lived her life to the fullest and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.

Tessie was a descendant of the McCoy’s. She could talk for hours about her family history (Hatfield & McCoy) and was proud to be a McCoy.

Tessie is survived by her sons Bud J. (Cheryle) Akers, III and Marshall Ray (Johnnie) Akers; daughter in law Sue Akers; 11 grandchildren; many great and great great grandchildren; cousin Francis (Art); and best friends Myrtle Sullivan and Nancy Linn.

 She is preceded in death by her husband Bud J. Akers, Jr.; sons Richard Curtis Akers and Noah Akers; daughter Doris Jean Akers; grandsons Curtis Lee Akers and Jimmy Akers: parents Noah and Maggie (Hatfield) McCoy; sisters and brothers in law Esmal (Paul) Akers and Janice Marie (Carl) Garnto; and brother Alvie McCoy.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Faith Memorial Church, 2610 W. Fair Ave., Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the Frank E. Smith funeral home, 405 N. Columbus St. Lancaster, Ohio 43130, and one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will take place in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. 

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Faith Memorial Church.
