Steven Craig Abel passed suddenly on November 20th, 2011. Son of the late Albert and Harriette Abel born on February 24, 1950 in Pennsville, Ohio. Mr. Abel was a 1968 graduate of Morgan High School in McConnelsville, Ohio. He worked at Taylor Woodcraft in Malta, Ohio for 27 years. After they closed he went to Burnham Foundry in Zanesville for 10 years. Most recently he was employed by IGA in Baltimore. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by his wife Vicky (Drake) to whom he was married on February 26, 1971, his children Jim Abel (John Corba) of Butler and Staci Carpenter (Steve) and grandchildren Ryan, Cara, and Craig Carpenter. Steve loved hunting and fishing. He lived in Morgan County most of his life until moving to Lancaster in 2004. While there he served on McConnelsville City council for nine years and held various offices including President of Local Union 3004 of Carpenters and Joiners. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and sister Martha Ball of Beverly. He is survived by two sisters Wanda Mizer (Robert) of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Laverta Heinzman of Grove City. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Steve's memory. At Steve's request, no calling hours will be observed. Caring cremation will take place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
