Stephen T. Muetzel

Stephen Thomas Muetzel, 41, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of December 1, 2023, in Columbus.

Stephen was born on February 23, 1982 to his loving parents, Tom and Teresa Muetzel. He was a 2001 graduate of Fisher Catholic High School and attended Ohio University, where he was a member of Theta Chi and the Alumni chair of the Knights of Columbus. He was a certified Master Plumber through the Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors and spent his 23 year career as Project Manager and Co-Owner of the family business, Muetzel Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Co. located in Columbus.

Stephen was a devoted husband, father, son and brother who enjoyed the outdoors, grilling, and spending time with family and friends. He prioritized spending time with his loved ones and worked tirelessly to take care of others before himself. Stephen was a devout Catholic and an active longtime member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Lancaster. 

Although he was successful and accomplished in his professional life, his selfless legacy is more greatly defined by his family. He and his wife, Jacquelyn spent a total of 22 wonderful years together. They were blessed with four beautiful children: Alexis (19); Alayna (15); Adalyn (8); and Elijah (6). 

He is survived not only by his wife and children but also by his parents, Tom and Teresa Muetzel of Lancaster; sisters Julie (Alex) Pool, Emily (Kevin) Sellers, Molly (Carley) Stedman, and Angela (Luke) Oestman; Mother-in-law Lois Hysell; Father-in-Law Don Davis; Sister-in-law Jane (Matt) Stiers; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, dozens of nieces and nephews, and many close friends whom he loved.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Ann Muetzel; Joe and Anna Persichetti; Aunt Mary Muetzel; and Uncle Geno Persichetti.

Visitations will be held on both Saturday, December 9, 2023 and Monday, December 11, 2023 at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus Street, Lancaster, Ohio from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 6:00pm-8:00pm both days. A Rosary will be said at 7:30pm on Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10:30am at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 South High Street, Lancaster, Ohio 43130 with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, 1500 South Broad Street in Lancaster. A luncheon will follow interment at Fisher Catholic High School, 1803 Granville Pike, Lancaster. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made to funds established for the Muetzel children at St. Mary’s Catholic School or Fisher Catholic High School.
