Stephen Dwight McGee of Lancaster went to be with his Lord Wednesday, July 17, 2013. He was on the Ministry Team at Maple Street United Methodist Church as Director of Music. He retired from Ralston Foods where he was a Purchasing Co-coordinator. Steve was a private instructor of piano and trombone attending Louisiana Tech University and the University of Southwestern Louisiana majoring in music education and Ohio University in business administration.
He was a longtime musician and music teacher who dearly loved his students and was totally committed to their development and growth as Christian musicians. He played with the Heisey Wind Ensemble - Denison University, Licking County Symphony, Ruston Civic Symphony, Adelphi Band and several other groups. He was founder and director of Steve McGee’s Band of Gold - Dance Band 1966-69. He was accompanist for the children’s choir at First United Methodist Church from 1986-1998.
He was a member of the Maple Street United Methodist Church and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is survived by his three sons: Chadwick Dwight McGee of Lancaster, Nathaniel Woodrow (Mary) McGee of Lewis Center and Brian Stephen McGee of Lancaster; grand-daughter Ashley Elizabeth McGee; brother Michael (Cyndi) McGee; sister Rebecca (Pete) Sharp; aunts, uncles, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Eugenia McGee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013 at Maple Street United Methodist Church with Reverends Phyllis Fetzer and Don Meadows officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Interment will follow at Union Grove Cemetery, Canal Winchester, Ohio. Contributions may be made to Maple Street United Methodist Church Music Ministries, 438 E. Wheeling St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
