Sharon Kim

Sharon Sue (Shonebarger) Kim, 67, went to be with her Savior, on April 13, 2014, surrounded by her family. Sharon, daughter of the late Clarence and Lillian (Steinmetz) Shonebarger, was born on October 21, 1946. She was born and raised in Lancaster, Ohio, attending and graduating from Berne Union Local Schools in 1964. She married Joseph Kim in 1966, and they had two children together; Amy Beth (Kim) Schillig, and Brett Andrew Kim. Sharon was a devoted mother and stayed home with her children until they entered school. She then went to work for Berne Union Local School district as the elementary secretary. She loved this position where she built relationships with children in the community and made many lasting friendships. Sharon was also her kids’ number one fan at all of their sporting events. Sharon was an avid reader, a gardener, an amazing baker, and a devoted grandmother. She is a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sugar Grove. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a precious granddaughter, Anna Beth Schillig. Sharon will be dearly missed by her husband, Joe, children, Amy and Edward Schillig, and Brett and Erica Kim. Perhaps those who will miss Sharon and her chocolate chip cookies most are grandsons Andrew Kim, Maxwell Schillig, Jacob Kim, Mason Kim, and Dylan Hutchison. She is also survived by her loving brothers and their spouses; Dave and Janet Shonebarger, James and Judy Shonebarger, and Gary and Barb Shonebarger; along with many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11AM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 213 E. 5th St. Sugar Grove, officiated by Pastor Bill Lyle. A committal service will take place following the service at St. Matthew Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Wednesday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME from 4PM until 7PM and one hour prior at the church on Thursday. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
