Friday August 17, 2018 a great woman Shana Rife Lewis, went to be home with the Lord. Though her heart stopped beating, the memories and irreplaceable influence of a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend will live on. Shana Lewis was born on September 13, 1954 to Richard and Marla Jean Rife. She graduated from Lancaster High School with the class of 1972. After a long-awaited search, Shana found the love of her life with her husband Maurice Lewis. They share a love and bond that will never be broken. Shana and Maurice’s passion for traveling led them to never visiting the same place twice. Shana loved to dance and found the perfect partner with Maurice. You could find them dancing anywhere, even in the aisle of a grocery store.
Having fun and making memories was a priority for Shana. As those who knew her can attest to, celebrating a birth-day was not good enough. Shana insisted we all celebrate her birth-month along with her. Between skydiving, snorkeling, ziplining, white water rafting and motorcycle riding, you could also find her splashing in mud puddles, watching a storm roll in, playing ghost in the graveyard and sipping tea on a park bench while people watching. Shana found excitement and adventure in everything that she did.
Shana’s favorite saying was, “stop and smell the roses”. She would never pass up an opportunity to pause to be sure a moment of enjoyment would not pass her by. In fact, while stealing firewood with a friend, she stopped to gaze at the stars before driving the get-away car. Next to her birthday, April Fool’s Day was her favorite holiday. Her friends and family were the target of many pranks and practical jokes.
Through all the fun and shenanigans, Shana always made it very clear that her faith in God was unwavering and she loved Him with all her heart. She was loving, kind, caring and compassionate. She had a passion for her family and would proudly tell anyone that would listen about each of them.
In addition to her husband and mother, Shana is survived by her children Kellie (Jay) Sharp, Landi (Greg) O’Connell, Nick (Angie) Lewis, Rebecca (Chris) Wiseman, Nathaniel (Zach) Lewis and Jessica (Chris) Thompson. Grandchildren, Taryn, Justin, Kacey, Dylan, Kayla, Patrick, Lincoln, Ben, Mykayla, Addison, Isaac, Evan, Mason, Ayden. Sisters Sherriee (Rick) Vincent and Tracie (John) Butcher. Shana was proceeded in death by her father Richard Rife, sister Elaine Asher and nephew Brandon Butcher.
Shana had more friends than the average person meets in a lifetime. She never met a stranger and could start a conversation with anyone. She immediately made you feel welcome and at ease upon meeting her. No matter what she had going on in her life, she made time for you. You could often find Shana having lunch and sipping her tea with her friends and family. Shana sure loved her iced-tea.
Help us celebrate not a life ended, but a life that was lived. The family asks that you have faith, laugh often, enjoy life, spend time with your family, take a walk on the beach, make a toast to friendships that are lifelong and beyond. That would be Shana’s wish for you.
A funeral service for Shana will take place on Wednesday at 10:30AM at the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 4PM until 8PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
