Sarah Miller

Sarah Louise Taff Miller died early Friday morning, October 26, 2018. She was born February 24, 1929, in Oakland, California, to Charles Leverett Taff and Marvel Beatrice Law Taff.

She graduated from Alameda (California) High School in 1947 and studied vocal music at San Francisco City College.

She served with the American National Red Cross in Japan during the Korean War.

She married James William Miller of Lancaster in Alameda, California, in 1953. The couple recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They lived in Columbus while her husband finished law school at Ohio State University, and the family moved to Lancaster in 1955.

Mrs. Miller was active in many community activities, including as a member of the Board of the Lancaster Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was a member of Froebel Club, Parents' League, Hospital Twig #1, and a leader of a Campfire Girls group.

She was on the Board of the Fairfield Medical Center for eight years and served as Chairman of the Board for two years. She was on the Board of the Fairfield County District Library for 21 years, serving as Chairman of the Board for two years. She was active in founding the Library Foundation.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her loving husband James W. (Jim) Miller, and their children Michael James Miller of Los Angeles, California, Stephen William Miller (Kim) of Pickerington, Ohio, and Maryjane Leverett Miller Hotaling (Clark) of Webster Groves, Missouri. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Nicholas William Miller, Sarah Katherine Miller, Jackson Leverett Hotaling and Thomas Daley Hotaling, and by her sister L. Patricia Taff of San Leandro, California, two nieces and one nephew.

Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Jean Miller, her sisters, Mary Jo Ann Taff Cranston of Alameda, California, and Elizabeth Joyce Taff Weil of Sonoma, California, and her in-laws W. C. (Boo) Miller and Lucile D. Miller, of Lancaster.

Sarah was diagnosed with chronic progressive Multiple Sclerosis in 1982. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Main St. Terrace, Dr. Judith Bratton, Dr. Gordon Snider, and Dr. James Parker for their many years of good advice and thoughtful care, and also longtime family friend, Teri Ebersbach.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, November 23rd at St. John's Episcopal Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Robert B. Clarke.
