Sandra Lee (Carrick) Foster age 74, of Lancaster, died peacefully on March 17th, 2016 at Riverside Methodist Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born to the late Herbert and Phyllis (Schneider) Carrick on February 26th, 1942 in Toledo. She retired from Ohio University (Lancaster) as an Advisor for Student Services. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, a Master Gardener, a member of the Dozen Doers, the Jr. Women’s Club, and a founding parent of the Lancaster Montessori Schools. Sandy, as her friends and family called her, accomplished much in her life. She loved and was loved by many, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Frank H. Foster III; sons Frank H. (Andrea) Foster IV, of Granville and Jason H. (Julea) Foster of Lancaster; daughter, Janis K. (Andrew) Smeltzer of Lancaster; grandchildren, Jillian (Ben VerDow), Justine, Jared, Annabelle, and Wilson Foster, Grace, Emma, and Katherine Smeltzer; sisters, Karen (Rod) Chambers and Lisa (Rick) Greene; several nieces, nephews, and many friends, both two and four legged. Sandy and her husband resided in and greatly enjoyed their home in Fairfield County and its small farm for the last 50 years.
A service will take place on Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church at noon officiated by Rev. Matthew Richardson. Visitation will take place at the church on Monday from 5 PM until 7 PM with a time of sharing and remembrance from 7PM until 7:30PM. Visitation will also take place on Tuesday, two hours prior to the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at a later time at Zeigler Cemetery.
Sandy had countless friends in Lancaster and the surrounding areas. In the 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s she advised many students at OU-L, and in this and numerous other organizations she made friends easily. Always ready with a smile, she missed few opportunities to spend time talking with anyone she knew, even if it made her late for her next event. She gave of herself, first to her husband and children, then to her students and then to her grandchildren and pets (including herds of sheep numbering nearly 80 at times and a great variety of other farm animals). Sandy grew in her faith in Jesus Christ as she matured. The funeral and calling hours will reflect the joy she had in this life and the hope she had for the life to come.
Memorials can be made in Sandy’s name to the First Presbyterian Church Missions 222 N Broad St. Lancaster, OH 43130 or the Fairfield Area Humane Society 1721 Granville Pike. Lancaster, OH 43130. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
