Sally “Susie” S. (Varney) Clay, 76 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 8, 1945 in Pike County, Kentucky.
“Susie” is described as a funny and caring person, who was not afraid to tell you when you are wrong. Some of her favorite things were cooking, shopping, and watching trivia shows. Her husband said “she was so smart that she would answer every question right while watching Jeopardy.” She loved spending time with family. Her nieces and nephews, remember spending a couple weeks in the summer visiting Uncle John and Aunt Susie in Kentucky, eating out and doing the most fun activities together. It was said to be “something they would always cherish.”
She is survived by her husband, John D. Clay of Lancaster, Ohio; sister Gayle Armentrout of Gahanna, Ohio; brother Richard (Brenda) Varney of Lancaster, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Sally Varney; sisters, Claudette Spencer and Emogene Baber.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS STREET, LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. Family and friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Forest Rose Cemetery.
