Rudy Reed

Rudy Scott Reed of Columbus, Ohio, died February 2, 2012, at Grant Medical Center in Columbus following an automobile accident. He was born November 2, 1960, to Jim and Portia Reed of Baltimore who will forever miss their special son.

Rudy is survived by his wife Lisa Reed, daughters Kasey Reed (fiance Daniel Golko), Kristin Reed, Kortney (K.C.) Brewer, and granddaughter Kensley Brewer, as well as his sister Jamie (Keith) Barr, nephew Jordan Barr, niece Rylee Barr and his aunt Pam (Jeff) Whittington. He will also be remembered by extended family members and the many friends he made throughout his too brief life. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Russell and Marie Wagner and Ralph (Jim) and Loda Reed; as well as "good buddy" and uncle, Dick Reed.

Rudy graduated from Liberty Union H.S. in the class of '79, and enjoyed an outstanding athletic career. He is the male career scoring leader in basketball with over 1400 points, a member of the '77-'78, '78-'79 teams who won a league record 28 consecutive MSL games and an All-Ohio First Team selection. Rudy also holds several baseball records, was on teams that won 96 games in his career and was chosen an All-Ohio shortstop, making him one of LU's few two-sport all Ohioans. He was also the first LU golfer to qualify and play in a district golf tournament. Rudy is a member of LU's Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rudy was awarded a baseball scholarship to OSU and remained a loyal Buckeye though he was not shy about critiquing the coaches. However, his real sports passion was the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was seldom seen without wearing some item of Steeler black and gold.

He worked for Mars Petcare USA for nearly 30 years and a conversation with his fellow workers and management quickly reveals the earnest respect and esteem in which Rudy was regarded for his loyalty and work ethic.

A public Celebration of Life Memorial Service will take place in the Liberty Union M.S. auditorium 600 Washington St. Baltimore, OH 43105 on Sunday, February 19th, at 2:00PM.

Caring Cremation has taken place through the Johnson-Smith Funeral Home.

Memorials can be made in Rudy's name to the Liberty Union Athletic Booster Club construction project P.I.L.L.A.R.
