Ronald L. Mathias, 83, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away on the morning of January 9, 2023 at the Pickering House. He was born in Lancaster to the late Lee and Margie Mathias and graduated from Lancaster High School Class of 1958. Ron was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church, having served on Church Council and Property Committee.
Ron was employed at Essex Wire in Lancaster for 15 years. He retired from General Motors in Columbus after 22 years as a tool and die maker. Ron was a Mr-Fix-It to all and could repair just about anything.
He was a fan of the OSU Buckeyes and Penn State, flying both flags on game day - with the Buckeye flag always on top. Ron loved to travel, with Yosemite National Park being a favorite.
Ron is survived by Darletta (Wolshire), his wife of 57 years; daughter Kristin Seitz, son John (Denise) Mathias, granddaughter Mackenzie Mathias of Charlotte, NC and grandson Jacob Seitz of Brooklyn, NY; brothers Charles (Mary) Mathias, Carl (Sharon) Mathias, Donnie Mathias, and Jerry (Michelle) Mathias, all of Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Scott Seitz and sisters Shirley June and Susie Perrault.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Rev. Father William G. Pursley officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Rose Cemetery on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. Friends may visit Friday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Buckeye apparel is welcomed.
