Robert French

Robert E. French 83 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Monday, October 3, 2016 at the Lanfair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Sherburn) French; daughter, Deborah French of Lancaster, Ohio; nieces and nephews, Pat Gordon, Vonda (Sam) Strawn, Bill French, Rodney and Mike Sherburn along with many cousins.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, George and Lurie French, sister, Florence Hart, brothers, Delbert and Frank French, nieces, Wanda Konkler and Roxane Weigand.

He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the US Army as a staff sergeant from 1953-1955. His work history manifested in his many abilities from Bordon Dairy Company to The Ohio State University working with computers. The hardworking man that he was, he also built two homes on the way. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling and spending time with family.

Robert was currently active in the “Honor Flight” which brought him great delight in helping others. He was also an active, member of the Veterans group that meets at Olivedale Senior Citizens Center and the American legion post #11. Bob was also working on getting the State of Ohio to authorize a long-neglected resolution for honoring our veterans with “The Veterans Remembered Flag” for those who served our country with courage, honor and dignity (which included the living and deceased).

Funeral service will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERLA HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Dr. John Beckett officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Rose Cemetery with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail conducting rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service on Friday.

The family expresses their appreciation to Dr. Neal Raya and Nursing staff for their kind and compassionate care of him.
