Robert George Engel

February 21, 1959 — December 3, 2021

Lancaster

Rob Engel, 62, passed away Dec. 3, 2021 at Fairfield Medical Center, after a battle with Covid.  He was born February 21, 1959 in what was known as the Lancaster Community Hospital, now FMC.  He lived his entire life as a Lancaster resident.

Rob graduated at the age of 16 from Lancaster High School, class of 1976.  In April of 1979 he married Dee (Hewitt) Swingle and in 1981 their son Nick was born.  They later divorced.

In 1982, Rob and his brother Jim started a county sanitation route.  They named their business JNR Sanitation.  Since Rob’s profession was now picking up garbage, he became known to many as the G-Man.  And, since his personal residence is white in color, it became The White House.

Rob enjoyed working as if it were a hobby.  However, he still took time to enjoy camping, cooking out, boating, and riding wave runners on the Ohio River.

Rob was patriotic and loved his country.  He always took time to help those in need.  Rob had a really big heart.

Rob is survived by his son, Nicholas R. Engel, and his special friend Chasity Perkins.  Also surviving are his siblings and their children: Jane Engel-Merrill and her daughter Betsy Atanasov: Mary (James) Love and their children Jennifer, Niles and Miriam Love; Susan Biggs Stoughton and her children Jason and Erin Biggs; Amy Daubenmire and her children Molly Robinson and David and Grant Daubenmire.

Great nieces and nephews Kaaren Burke, Tilden and Canyon Babinec-Love, Emmett Acar-Love and Liam Robinson also survive.

He was predeceased by his parents Emmett and Vivian Engel and his brother Jim Engel.

Per Rob’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours so people will remember him as he was in life.  Memorial service will be at a later date.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations can be made to Fairfield County Parks – 407 E. Main St. 43130 or Tunnel 2 Towers – 2361 Hylan Blvd. – Staten Island, NY 10306 or charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at FMC who gave Rob such compassionate and professional care.

Arrangements are being handled by the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home.
