Lancaster

Robert “Bob” Bainter, age 88, a cherished soul and a remarkable figure in his community, was born on June 1, 1936, in Lancaster, Ohio. He traversed this world until February 5, 2025, when he passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Fairfield Medical Center, surrounded by a legacy of love and kindness that will resonate through the hearts of those who knew him.

Bob was an unforgetable person who was a dedicated professional whose career blossomed at the Shelley Company as a sales estimator, where he honed his expertise in heavy highway construction—truly, his wheelhouse. He contributed to pivotal projects, including the construction of the current LHS High School and Alley Park, leaving behind tangible monuments to his hard work and dedication. After his retirement he developed an artistict passion for stone and marble carving. He was always an avid OSU fan rooting on the Buckeyes and loved to have get togethers to watch the game.

Bob’s educational journey began at LHS, from which he graduated in 1954. His thirst for knowledge and experiences continued throughout his life, culminating in rich stories that never failed to entertain and captivate. A masterful storyteller, he could weave tales that rang with humor and warmth, often enriched by his quick comebacks and hallowed sayings, ready for any situation.

Bob's nurturing and generous spirit touched everyone he encountered. An extraordinary uncle, he stood steadfastly by his nieces and nephews, always a source of support, laughter, and wisdom. His compassion extended further as he committed time and effort toward causes he adored, including the planting of trees at Rising Park for Arbor Day and supporting the move of the planetarium at LHS High School to Nelsonville. Bob held a deep affection for maintaining friendships—not just locally, but far and wide, keeping in touch with beloved friends across Florida and other states.

His military service in the Navy Reserves speaks to the depth of his character and his sense of duty to his country. Bob’s life was imprinted with pride. Bob’s community spirit shined brightly as he played a pivotal role in helping Kiwanis construct Hunter Park, transforming it into an all-access playground, and lighting up the face of Mt. Pleasant for all to enjoy.

In the glow of memories, Bob's beautiful wit and amazing personailty will be deeply cherished by those he is survived by especially his significant other and close companion, Joanna Bradbury, his sister-in-law Joann Bainter, and a host of nieces and nephews including Beverlee (Lloyd “Andy”) Anders, Jodie (Mike) Martinelli, and George (Natalie) Cruit, along with his adored great nieces and great nephews, Josh (Jennifer) Anders, Lyndsay (Zach) Martinelli Kruse, and Michael Martinelli and many other family members and great friends.

Bob joins the embrace of departed loved ones, including his parents, Charles and Faye Bainter, his beloved bride Barbara Bainter, his son Robbie Bainter, and his brother Don Bainter. Together, they remain a guiding presence, inspiring all who carry forward his legacy of generosity and joy.

As we reflect on his life, his final words resonate with us: “I HAVE NO MORE TO SAY.” In this statement, etched on the back of his monument, we hear the echoes of his laughter, the warmth of his kindness, and the wisdom and wit of his stories. Bob Bainter will be remembered not only for his deeds, but for the vibrant spirit he imparted to the lives he touched.

Caring Cremation has taken place through the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home. A private family graveside will take place at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in Lancaster. Online condolences can be made at www.funeralhome.com
