Richard L. (Dick) Vogel, 87, of Gahanna, Ohio, born on January 8, 1927 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital.
“Mr. Vogel” as he was affectionately known by the many people’s lives that he touched is survived by his wife of 64 years, Raymonda; their dog “Suzie” and his sister, Patricia (Bob) Clowe, and nephew, Gary of Lancaster, Ohio.
Mr. and Mrs. Vogel were both born and raised in Lancaster, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his mother Harriet and father Roscoe Vogel and his older sister Jean “Dutch”.
Mr. Vogel retired from Big Bear Stores in 1989 after 47 years of service to the company. During his career at Big Bear he rose to the position of Senior Vice President of Operations and was a Member of the Company’s Board of Directors when he retired.
Mr. Vogel volunteered for many years, after retirement, at Grant Medical Center and Joint Implant Surgeons helping people through the issues associated with recovery from knee and hip replacement surgery.
Mr. Vogel was a Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict where he served as a Sonar Operator in the United States Navy.
Mr. and Mrs. Vogel are members of and attend St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Gahanna, Ohio.
A private funeral service will be held in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Pastor Steve Brown and Mr. Paul Kelsey officiating. Interment will be in Forest Rose Cemetery in Lancaster, Ohio.
In Lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Faith Mission Inc., 245 N. Grant Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43215, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4456 Morse Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43230 or the Salvation Army.
