Richard P. Smith 80 of Lancaster, Ohio died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Crestview Manor Nursing Home.
He was a Korean conflict veteran serving in the US Army. He retired from Bob Sumerel Tire and Service with 42 years of service. He was a member of Lancaster First Church of God, VFW Post #1380, volunteer fireman for Berne Twp. and also volunteered for the Berne Union High School Football team.
Richard is survived by his wife of 24 years, Nina Smith; children, Randy (Rajean) Smith of Lancaster, OH, Robin (Don) Wiks of FL, Rhonda Smith of Chicago, IL, Marlene (Floyd) Baird of Lancaster, OH, Shirley J. Dupler of Cincinnati, OH, Paulette Wharton of IN, and Robert (Judy) Porter, Jr. of Westerville, OH; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Gary (Emily) Smith of Shawnee, OH, Donald (Helen) Smith and Robert (Sharon) Smith all of Lancaster, OH; sisters, Donna Jean (Harold) Bigham of Sugar Grove, OH and Shirley (Ray) Morris of Lancaster, OH; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Smith and sister-in-law, Betty Smith; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Florence and Marvine Smith, son, Richard Smith, parents, Charles and Esther Smith, and brothers, Francis and Norman Smith.
Funeral service will be held Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Rev. William P. Means officiating. Burial to follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Baltimore VFW Post 3761 conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
