Richard “Dick” Leroy Sheets 74 of Sugar Grove, Ohio died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at OSU. He was born on April 9, 1936 in Lancaster, Ohio to the late Leroy and Kathleen Ruff Sheets.
Richard served in the US Army worked at the Letter Shop and Columbia Gas. He retired from Columbia Gas-Crawford Station Sugar Grove, Ohio as an operation supervisor with 35 years of service. He also was a lifetime farmer.
Richard was a lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Church Council, Trustee for St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery, Lancaster Old Car Club, lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group and he loved his Harley Davidson Motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nellie Sheets; son, Richard (Linda Wilkin) Sheets of Sugar Grove, Ohio; daughters, Susan (Rick) Damron and Cathy (John) Woods all of Sugar Grove, Ohio; grandchildren, Brandon (Sarah) Williams of Amanda, Ohio, Tanner Woods, and Benjamin Damron both of Sugar Grove, Ohio, and Amity Wilkin of Lancaster, Ohio; step-grandson, Bryan Williams of Florida; special grandson, Matthew (Becky) Kessler; special great grandson, Aaron Davis; brothers, Donald (Joanne) Sheets of Columbus, Ohio and Jack Sheets of Sugar Grove, Ohio; nieces, Debbie (Earl) Musick of Bucyrus, Ohio, Tricia (Doug) Arrowsmith of Columbus, Ohio, and many more nieces and nephews; great nephews, Matthew and Mark Musick and Drew Arrowsmith; great niece, Allie Arrowsmith; sisters-in-law, Virginia Neely of Lancaster, Ohio and Jeannette Williams of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Joseph Williams and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Sheets and Lena Williams.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Sugar Grove, Ohio with Mr. Phil Unger officiating. Burial to follow in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
