Richard Lawrence Rheaume

Richard Lawrence Rheaume 94 of Amanda, Ohio passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at his residence. He was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on March 4, 1930. He was the son of the late Edward J. Rheaume, Sr. and Anna Marie (Campion) Rheaume. 

Richard attended Pittsfield Schools and then went into the service. He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the 508th transportation company in Berlin, Germany from 1951-1953. 

He was retired from Coca-Cola where he was a machine repairman. Richard attended Fairfield Christian Church in his later years where he met many lovely people. He was a master carpenter and mechanic. He enjoyed drawing and painting and also loved helping his neighbors. 

The love of his life was Joan Marie (Leavy) Rheaume who passed away on July 14, 2003 after 49 years of wonderful marriage. He also was preceded death by their son, Mitchell Joseph Rheaume who passed away on January 20, 2012. Richard lovingly cared for Mitchell during his 11 year battle with Hodgekins Disease.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Jennifer and son-in-law, Jay Johnson of Amanda, Ohio, his grandson Garrett Johnson also of Amanda, two granddaughters Lisa Johnson of Blacklick, Ohio and McKenzie and her husband Keith Dewese of Lancaster, Ohio, two sisters Shirley and her husband Val Tornicelli of Pittsfield and Carol Myers of Longwood, Florida and many nieces and nephews. 

He also was preceded in death by his two sisters, Evelyn and Elizabeth and one brother, Edward.

For the last five years, Richard has enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren, Jay, Joan, Daughtry, Micah, Autumn and Ezra. He also enjoyed the special attention of Tom and Brenda Johnson who were his second family. 

Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Pastor Joel Reid officiating. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home in Lancaster. A funeral service will held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at the Dery Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9:30-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Massachusetts.
