Richard Rick E. Geyer, 66 of Lancaster, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, June 9th, 2013 at the Fairfield Medical Center.
He was born on May 24, 1947 to the late Howard E. and Joan (Riebel) Geyer. He was a graduate of Hilliard High School and the Conservatory of Music at Capital University. Rick retired after nearly 30 years in the life insurance industry with Aid Association for Lutherans and Western-Southern Life. After retirement he was a part-time substitute instructor for the Lancaster City and Fairfield County area schools. Rick was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam Conflict.
He was an avid volunteer with various music organizations including director of the Fairfield County Senior Chorus, The Americana Players, the choirs at St. Peters Lutheran Church, and a member/public relations coordinator for the Lancaster Mens Chorus.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard E. Geyer and brother, Hal T. Geyer. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leota M. Banfield-Geyer; daughters, Renata Leighann (Rob) Quijada and Reneé Deanna Geyer; step-daughters, Becky S. (Richard) Clark, and Cathy J. (Billy) Fanning; mother, Joan Geyer of Mt. Gilead, OH; sisters, Marcia S. Wimmer of Decatur, Ill. and Carol L. (Ben) Holsinger of Edison, OH; sister-in-law, Marcia J. Reeter of Sullivan, Ill. and several step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 18th, 2013 from 6PM until 8PM at the Grace United Church of Christ, 1185 Pleasantville Rd., Lancaster, OH 43130 where a brief memorial service will take place at 8PM with Pastor Dennis Sparks officiating accompanied by the Lancaster Men's Chorus. Caring Cremation® has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME and interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, Ill.
The family would like to thank the Fairfield Medical Center, Lanfair Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Drs. Norberto, Qamar and Edwards, Paul Schorr and Pastor Dennis Sparks for their care and support during this difficult time.
