Richard F. Motsch

Richard F. Motsch 86, of Baltimore, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, from pancreatic cancer.  He was born in Lancaster, Ohio on September 14, 1934, along with his identical twin brother Ronald L. Motsch. They were the first set of identical twins born by cesarean section in the United States.  Rich was proceeded in death by his loving parents Farrell H. and Betty J. Motsch.  He was a 1953 graduate of Lancaster High School while always remaining in touch with his high school friends by gathering monthly for their luncheons.

Rich worked for North American Aviation for 9 years in both the aeronautical and aerospace engineering departments as a wind tunnel model builder. Later on, he retired from Lucent Technologies as a toolmaker after 30 years of service.  There was nothing he could not design, fabricate, and build with his engineering mind.  He also volunteered for 17 years as a Port Hole Usher at the Ohio State University football games. In 1950, he saw his first ever football game at the Ohio Stadium, the Snow Bowl. Both him and his wife Shirley loved to follow the Ohio State Buckeyes to many Big 10 away games along with attending numerous bowl games over the years.

At the age of 83, he took up drone flying as a hobby obtaining his commercial certification for FAA 107 to fly small remote aircrafts.

He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fishing in small lakes throughout Fairfield County. Over the past 45 years where he lived with his loving wife, he cherished deer hunting on their property and just spending time outdoors on their farm. At the age of 75, he shot a 286lb. black bear that was the 3rd largest bear shot at the hunting camp he was staying at in Ontario, Canada.  Rich was so proud of the black bear that he placed it in his family room in a full standing mount.  Some of his other adventurous hunting expeditions was flying to a South African Safari lodge at the age of 78 in (2013). While in South Africa he hunted Kudu, Black Wildebeest, Nyala, Gemsbuck, and Mountain Reedbuck.  In 2015, Rich and Shirley traveled to New Zealand where he hunted both Red Stag and Tahr having to be dropped off on the mountainous terrain by helicopter.  For Rich’s 82nd birthday he spent fourteen days residing at a moose hunting lodge traveling to the location by a seaplane in the remote parts of the Alaskan wilderness.

Annually, both him and his wife loved traveling all over Europe, China, and South America absorbing the various cultures of the different countries. Some of the countries they frequently traveled multiple times were Scotland, Iceland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, Iceland, UK, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal just to name a few.  When not traveling throughout Europe he enjoyed traveling throughout various destinations in the United States.

In 2018, both him and his grandson (Gunnar) traveled to Germany cruising down the Danube River exploring the Alps mountains, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Romania, and Germany.

Rich also looked forward to attending church every Sunday at Trinity United Church of Christ in Baltimore, Ohio with his wife and grandchildren whom he loved very much.

Rich is survived by his very loving wife of 49 years, Shirley A. Motsch.  Their only child Cynthia A. Lamb. (Eddie B Lamb) whom he was extremely proud of. Their dearest beloved grandchildren Jacob “Gunnar” and Zoey Lamb whom he cherished.  Additionally, he is survived by his identical twin brother Ronald L. (Betty) Motsch along with his sister- in law- Mary Klein, two nieces and several nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 15, 2021, at 1:00PM. located at Trinity United Church of Christ 105 N. High Street Baltimore, Ohio 43105 with a procession to Union Cemetery on Pleasantville Road outside of Baltimore, Ohio.

Friends and family may gather at 12 Noon one hour prior to funeral service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME.
