Richard L. Carper, 74, of Lancaster passed away on June 22, 2017 at his home surrounded by family. Richard was born on August 24, 1942 to the late Sheridan and Janie “Billie” Carper in Lancaster.
Richard was a 1960 graduate of Lancaster High School, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and a retiree from Holophane in Newark, Ohio.
He enjoyed woodworking, cooking for his family and friends, spending time with family, and taking his grandchildren fishing. Richard was also an avid golfer and enjoyed being the ring leader of the Wednesday night bunch at Pumpkin Vine. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 11, and the Pumpkin Vine Golf Course.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Sheridan and Janie Carper; and brothers, Thomas “Tom” (Sharon) and Jerry Carper.
He is survived by his sister, Bonnie Clark; sister in law, Carolyn Carper; son, Stephen (Michelle) Carper; daughter, Cheryl (Matt) Delong; grandchildren, Jessica (Josh), Hayleigh (Trey), Gabriella, and Isaiah Delong, and Nathan and Brody Polt; great-grandchildren, Abram Cottrill, Lylah and Asher Bernthold, and Liam and Lennox Messbarger; nieces, Patsy (Steve) McCabe, Sheila Carper-Woodson, Sandy (Nathan) Rinehart, and Rella Carper; nephew, Jeff (Robyn) Clark; special friends, Bob (Ruthie) Reedy, Matt, Penny, and Homer Thompson, and the American Legion Post 11 family.
Caring Cremation has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME. A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 11 in Richard’s honor on July 1, 2017 at 1:00 PM with a 21 gun salute followed by a goodbye golf salute.
