Richard Benner

Richard L. Benner, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2015.
Dick was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After retiring from City Savings & Loan in December, 1991, Dick and his longtime friend, L. Richard Dick Bartlett formed the Bartlett Benner Realty Company. He was also a member of the Lancaster Lions Club, Newark Masonic Lodge #97, and the Lancaster Board of Realtors. Dick enjoyed fishing and he loved being there for his grandchildren for any event or activity they were participating in.
Dick is survived by his daughter, Gayle (James) McGrath of Lexington, Kentucky; son, Dennis (Stacey) Benner of Heath, Ohio; grandchildren, Emily McGrath, Benjamin McGrath, Elizabeth McGrath. Madison Benner, and Cole Benner; brother, Garry W. (Letha) Benner of Newark; and sister, Monagene (William) Pound of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann C. Benner; father, Garry E. Benner; and mother, Pauline Beeks Guiffre.
Funeral service for Dick will be held at 10:30 am Friday at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 105 E. Mulberry St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 with Reverend Dr. Emil H. Klatt III officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at Wilson Cemetery, 4254 Marion Rd. NE, Newark, Ohio 43055. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Donations can be made in memory of Dick to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Pastor's Discretionary Fund, 105 E. Mulberry St., Lancaster, Ohio 43130.
