Rebecca Elam

Rebecca (Ruckman) Elam, 61, of Thurston, passed on Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at Fairfield Medical Center with family and close friend at her side. She was born April 5, 1952, to the late Don and Barb Ruckman.

Rebecca was a member of The Thurston Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary - Post 3761. She retired from the Limited Distribution Center. She loved spending time with her family and she also enjoyed playing cards, mushroom hunting, and playing jokes.

Rebecca is survived by her sisters, Cinda (Gary) Duggan and Linda (Harold “Fuzz”) Englehart; brothers, Steve (Becky) Ruckman and Rodger (Brenda) Ruckman; stepdaughter, Shana Elam; stepson, Shawn Elam; nephew raised as a son, Brandon Vincent; grandchildren, Trey and Carter; stepsister, Kay Baker; many aunts uncles, nieces, and nephews; and special friend, Wanda “Caretaker” Phillips.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Elam; parents; brother, Stanley “Bub” Ruckman; sister, Dorothy “Dee” Boggs; and niece, Trina Englehart.

Funeral service for Rebecca will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the JOHNSON-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Baltimore. Burial will follow in Old School Baptist Cemetery, Thurston. Family and friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
