Raymond L. Puddy Hollaway, Jr, 90, of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Pickering House.
Ray was born July 4, 1924 in Ferguson, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Marybeth Hollaway; parents, Agnes and Raymond L. Hollaway, Sr. of Alliance, Ohio; son, Jeffrey Jay Hollaway; and son-in-law, William K. Berry.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Judith R. Berry of Lancaster; sister, Jane (Earl) Johanson of Alliance; grandsons, Todd A. (MaryJo) Darling of Vadnais Heights, MN, Benjamin W. (Dianna) Berry of Lancaster, Jeffrey R. (Cheri) Hollaway of Bloomington, MN, Jay L. (Shannon) Hollaway of Walton Beach, FL; granddaughters, Wendy Flom of New York, NY, Robyn (Wheeler) Powell of Marietta, GA, and Dana L. Berry of Aspen, CO; great grandchildren, Haley Darling, Hayden Darling, Michael Flom, Allison Flom, Connor Powell, Meghan Powell, Audrey Berry, Julian Jackson, Elliott Hollaway, and Lillath Hollaway; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews; and too many friends to mention.
Ray served in the U.S. Army during the Second World War and received his Mechanical Engineering degree from International Correspondence School. He started his career at Strong Enamel in Sebring, Ohio and Belmont Enamel in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Ray joined Anchor Hocking in 1955, in the Closure Division in Connellsville, PA. He retired in 1987, after 38 years with Anchor Hocking as Senior Vice-President in Lancaster. Ray held a consulting job with Newell Corporation for 3 years following retirement.
Ray was a 32 Degree Mason in Lodge #57, Lancaster, and recently received his 65 year certificate.
Ray was an avid golfer, who over many years had 17 hole-in-one and many eagles. He was also a member of the P.G.A. National Country Club in Palm Beach, Florida.
Ray was a generous man and gave to many orginizations, including his church, St. Johns Episcopal Church in Lancaster.
A memorial service for Ray will be held at 6:30 PM Wednesday at St. Johns Episcopal Church, 134 N Broad St, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. Masonic service at 6:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Visitation Reception in the church undercroft following th service. Interment will be on his birthday, July 4, 2015, in the St Johns Episcopal Church garden. Caring Cremation has taken place with the Frank E. Smith Funeral Home.
