Biography

RAYMOND MARVIN BALLARD USN, Born March 22, 1927 North Granville, NY -- Died May 19, 2012 Lancaster Ohio.

Raymond was a renaissance man: scientist, musician, outdoorsman, and socially involved/committed citizen. Bachelor of Science: Mechanical Engineering - Clarkson College, NY; Engineer: All American Engineering, Thiokol, Dupont, and had multiple engineering patents. Musician: Oboe, Recorder, Vocalist, student of all major European classical composers, musicians and notable new musicians. Ohio Master Gardener, Avid Gardener since at least 1969. Outdoorsman: avid, bicyclist, canoeist, camper, and award-winning photographer. Skilled marksman and passionate gardener of his beloved dogwoods.

Raymond was a family man and a friend to many: he gave individual attention to all of his family emotionally, intellectually and physically, providing well for all. He was outgoing to and involved with many in his community and maintained loyal lifelong friendships. He is sorely missed.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Patricia Ballard; daughter, Susan (Gerald Huther) Ballard-Huther; son, David L. (Lori Eshleman-Ballard) Ballard; grandchildren, Amanda “Molly” (Ryan Schloesser) Verlander-Schloesser and Matthew David Verlander; and great grandchildren, Sam Kenneth Schloesser and Anna Claire Schloesser.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with Chaplain Mark Pierce officiating. Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail will conduct military rites.

Donations may be made in memory of Raymond to a charity of the donor’s choice.
