Phyllis Ann Shanks,on February 19, 2024, surrounded by family at her home passed peacefully away. She has left a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know her. Born in Wheelersburg on August 4, 1947, Phyllis dedicated her life to spreading love and kindness to those around her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Russell Glenn Shanks; children, Matthew Shanks, Kim (Eric) Coffman, Jamie (Jason) Wallenburg; grandchildren, Brandt and Kortnie Coffman, Connor and Macie Wollenberg; sister Bernita Wessel, several nieces and nephews, several foster children, and close family friends, Clara Elliott and special niece, Misty Carey.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Lynn Shanks son, Raesean Justin Shanks, parents, Mary and Chester Wessel, and sister, Mary Francis Wessel,
Phyllis will always be remembered for her exceptional devotion to fostering over 400 children and infants, exemplifying compassion and selflessness in every aspect of her life. Her warm personality and genuine care for others earned her the title of "Fairfield County's Mother." Pampering to many family's through her child care. She treated everyone she met with kindness, making the world a brighter place with her presence.
In addition to her career and fostering endeavors, Phyllis found joy in spending time with her grandchildren and lending a hand at her daughter's and granddaughter's flower shops. Her talent for crocheting was unmatched, as she lovingly crafted a afghans for every wedding she attended. Food was another expression of Phyllis's love, bringing happiness to those lucky enough to share a meal with her. She
Her proudest accomplishments included embracing everyone without judgment and embodying the teachings of Jesus by welcoming all with open arms.
To honor Phyllis Ann Shanks's remarkable life, visitation will be held on February 24, 2024, starting at 10:00 AM at Johnson-Smith Funeral Home 207, S. Main St. Baltimore, OH, followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Calvin Green. Burial will follow at Floral hills Memory Gardens.
