Phyllis Ruff-Lemke passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at the age of 90, with her daughter, son, and beloved cat, “Baby” by her side.
Phyllis was a licensed Cosmetologist her entire career. She owned her first beauty salon in Lancaster, Ohio, then moved to Bremen, Ohio and continued her salon for many years, and retired there at the age of 76.
After retiring, Phyllis took painting lessons from local painting artists, and special friend, Mariam Stampfle. Through her practice, she became a prolific painter.
Phyllis was talented at playing the rattle bones which she learned from her father, and enjoyed playing them in church and entertaining her family.
Most of all she enjoyed and was known for her ballroom dancing, love for music and always had a smile for everyone; she was loved by all who knew her.
She was a devoted Christian and attended Maple Grove United Brethren Church where she truly loved her church family and the ringing of the church bell.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Shelly Boring of Lancaster; son, Dan (Liz) Ruff of Simpsonville, KY; grandchildren, Dr. Megan Keller of Columbus, OH, and Ryan and Evan Ruff of Louisville, KY; and siblings, Mildred Rice of Largo, FL, Jack E. West of Logan, OH, and Sandra West of Lancaster, OH.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Lemke; and her parents.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a private service will be held for Phyllis. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery, Bremen. Arrangements are being made through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to FairHope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, OH, 43130, or to Maple Grove United Brethren Church, 9880 Lancaster-Newark Rd. NE
