Pearl “P.D.” Dean, 90, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016.
Pearl served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a 70 year member of the Baltimore V.F.W. Post 3761 and he was currently their longest active member. He worked for 38 years with Diamond Power before retiring in 1988. He was also an active member of Olivedale and he enjoyed spending time with his good friends and family. Pearl’s proudest accomplishment was being able to put his kids through college, an opportunity he never had, and to see them succeed in their professional careers.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Steven (Patti) Dean and Rick (Amy) Dean; daughter, Sandy (Gregg) Shull; grandchildren, Susan and Stephanie, Crystal, Sarah, and Brett, and Michelle, Rodney, and Brandon; 12 great grandchildren; companions, Betty Primmer and Pat Wheeler; and nieces and nephews.
Pearl was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Gladys Dean; mother, Sadie Dean; sisters, Dorothy Gary and Shirley Dean; and step-brothers, Archie, Art, and Earl Lott.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster with Pastor Stephen Sparling officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Lancaster with military rites by the Baltimore V.F.W. Burial Detail. Friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
