Paulette Maravich, 71, a beloved and cherished sister, aunt, teacher, mentor and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 in Columbus, Ohio. She left this world a better, more beautiful place than when she entered it. Some of her many talents and hobbies included watching English mystery TV shows, reading books, crocheting, cooking, jamming out to classic rock, helping people she knew and spending time with her family and friends. Paulette had a special humor and wit and was an excellent facial expressionist. It was always easy to see on her face what she was thinking. She had a kind and sensitive temperament but spoke with a voice that people perked up to and respected. Paulette was an attentive listener and never ceased offering her advice and loving affection to her friends and family. Paulette was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania and later moved to Lancaster, Ohio when she was 7. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1967. She went on to attend Ohio University finishing her undergrad and master’s programs with degrees in history. Her passion to become a teacher was evident. Paulette returned to LHS to start her career, teaching many subjects through the years including, social studies, civics, economics and current affairs. She was also heavily involved in the school’s extracurricular activities as a class advisor, directing musical productions, assisting with the drama club and volunteering at athletic games including timing races at track events. She also regularly attended the Lancaster Gales school football and basketball games. Although she never married or had children of her own, her students filled her life with joy and they became her focus. She was a dedicated, kind, genuine and influential teacher and was immensely respected and loved by fellow teachers, administrators and the many students she taught and mentored through her career. Paulette took pleasure and interest in assisting her students in their career and college planning so they would be well prepared to go on to have bright futures. Paulette’s students often visited her after their high school graduations to share their stories of success and thank her for her valuable guidance. She truly emulated the shining example of a teacher’s care and concern for her students. After 35 years of teaching, Paulette retired in Columbus, Ohio to be nearer to her family. She is survived by her brothers, Sam (Marianne R.) Maravich, Jr. of Huntley, Illinois and Robert (Marti) Maravich of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and nieces and nephews, Darci Girdler, Kristen Farmer, Jason Maravich, Frances Maravich and Adam Maravich.
Paulette was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Mildred Maravich, niece, Telquila Jones.
