Paul Robert “Sonny” Groves

Cpl. Paul Robert Groves 77 of Lancaster, Ohio reported to his Highest Commander on Friday, January 17, 2014.
He was born to the late Paul E. and Pauline Conrad Groves in Lancaster, Ohio on February 10, 1936. He graduated from Lancaster High School Class of 1954. He was a Korean Conflict veteran serving in the US Marine Corps. at Okinawa.
Sonny was a retired Furnace Room Supervisor with Anchor Hocking Glass Corp. He shared his knowledge of glassmaking at glass factories in Reims, France (VMC) and Nanjing, China.
Sonny was a portal usher at The Ohio State University Buckeye Games for many years. In the 1980’s, he coached many winning seasons for the YMCA Senior Girls Softball Team. He was a member of Corvettes of Lancaster and Earth Angel Foundation, Inc.
Sonny is survived by his wife, Judy Weaver Groves; daughter, Tammy Brady of Circleville, Ohio; six grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Vickie Smitley of Lancaster, Ohio; many nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patty Daubenmire Martin and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gladys and Rod Conrad.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Pastor Tony Salvatori officiating. Burial to follow in Forest Rose Cemetery with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail conducting military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
