Orlen Bates Sr., 87, formerly of Akron, passed away December 9th, 2013 at his grandson, John (Lynn) Bates residence in Lancaster. He was born on Aug. 6th, 1926 in Noble Co. to the late Elvin G. and Mary A. King Bates. Orlen worked at Mosaic Tile in Zanesville and moved to Akron and retired from Goodyear. Orlen served in the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of WWII.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Starks of Cambridge, son, Orlen Bates Jr. of Zanesville; brothers, older twin, Olen James Bates of IN and Ronald (Judith) Bates of North Olmstead; sister, Anna (John) Murrey of Canton; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, William, Alfred, Clarence, and Dighton R. Bates; and sisters, Beulah Swain, Golda Carter, and Blanche Feldner.
Caring Cremation® has taken place through the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME. Interment of his cremains will take place at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Louisville OH 44641.
