Norma Jean (Sailor) Hewitt

Norma Hewitt (Sailor), age 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Roger Wayne Hewitt, son George Ellis “Darb” Hewitt, and granddaughter, Amy Hewitt.  She leaves behind five children: Saundra Kay Collins, Roger Wayne “Fritz” Hewitt Jr., Dianna Lynn “Dee Dee” (Rodney) Swingle, Michael James Hewitt, Teresa Anne (James) Ruff as well as fourteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Norma was married to the late Roger Wayne Hewitt on January 29, 1955, in Lancaster, Ohio where they raised six children in a sometimes chaotic, but loving home. Norma loved to tell stories of her childhood, being raised on a farm by her adopted mother, Stella Dakin (Idol).  Over the years, Norma worked as a server at various Lancaster restaurants. She also volunteered at Medill Elementary School and Fairfield Medical Center. She treasured the many relationships built during that time.

Services will be at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home, 405 N. Columbus St. Lancaster, OH 43130.  The calling hours are Friday, June 17, 2022, 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022. Graveside service will be at Forest Rose Cemetery immediately following.
