Nathaniel (Nate) Hill, 78, of Lancaster, OH, died Thursday, April 24th, at the Pickering House, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He retired as a Lt. Colonel after serving over 20 years in the United States Air Force, from which he completed a one-year tour of duty in Vietnam earning the Distinguished Flying Cross, and never having been passed over for a promotion. Nate continued to be involved in many military-related organizations throughout his retirement including founder and president of the national TAC Tankers Association, past president of the Retired Armed Forces Association and Olivedale Veterans. His last military assignment was commander of the induction center at Fort Hayes in Columbus. He began his second career in the already established Hill’s Fabrics and Sewing Machines Store where he worked side-by-side with his family for over 15 years serving Fairfield County in various organizations and contributing to the community he loved. Among those were Kiwanis and the Masonic Lodge. In addition he was a very active member at First United Methodist church where he gave generously of himself.

Natalie, his wife of 12 years, survives him along with his children Holly Siegel, Margie (Roger) Donnell and Nate Hill (Cliff Wynne); stepchildren Robyn (Dana) Dewitt, Randi (Jim) Pinkepank, and Roy Clement along with eight step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Talitha (Tillie) Hill, second wife, Margie Bauman, son-in-law, Richard Siegel, parents Leon and Margaret Hill and sister Mary Elizabeth (Rajmond) Klekot.

Memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 163 East Wheeling Street, Lancaster, Ohio 43130, with Reverend Robert McDowell officiating. Caring Cremation® has taken place by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130. Burial to follow at Forest Rose Cemetery, Lancaster, Ohio with the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail to conduct military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the church and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorials may be given to Fair Hope Hospice, 282 Sells Rd., Lancaster, Ohio 43130 or the First United Methodist Church’s Pastor’s Discretionary Fund.
