Naomi E. Andres 87 of Lancaster, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Main Street Terrace Nursing Home.
Naomi was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church until her illness prevented her from attending services. As the wife of a minister, she served the church in many capacities. She taught Sunday School, served on the altar guild, was president of the Lutheran Church Women and served as the church treasurer. Naomi loved to read and loved to teach. In the early 1970s, she helped to establish the Fairfield County Literacy Council and served on its board for over 25 years. Through the Literacy Council, she taught numerous adults to read and taught volunteers how to teach others. She taught Adult Basic Education in the Lancaster City Schools, as well as a Second Language and she volunteered at the West Afterschool facility. Naomi also loved to bake and decorate cakes. Over the years, she made the cakes for six of her childrens weddings and partnered with her friend, Janice Long, to make cakes for dozens of weddings and anniversaries.
Naomi is survived by her daughters, Joyce Carr, Marcia L. (Richard) Dickson, Jr., Judith M. (Steve) Root all of Lancaster, Ohio and Jennifer L. (LaVon) Chilcote of Zanesville, Ohio; sons, Frederick W. (Cynthia) Andres of Lancaster, Ohio and James P. (Beth) Andres of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Horace Newt (Barbara) Hansell of Springfield, Ohio; sisters, Mary Anne Bisker of Springfield, Ohio, Jeannette (Rev. Philip) Barnhart of Columbus, Ohio and Sarah Jane (Donald) Tyree of Springfield, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Herman V. J. Andres, son, John T. Andres, parents, Truman and Mary Ann Hansell, sister, E. Susan Hansell, brother, Truman Hansell and son-in-law, George W. Carr.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church with Rev. Brian Dillahunt officiating. Burial to follow in Green Mound Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
