Michael Larry Rutter peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Friday, September 15, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born on September 11, 1949 and is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn, who lovingly cared for him at home until his passing.
Mike was a beloved husband, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend - a truly gentle soul. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He cared for the whole community unconditionally and served his family, friends, neighbors and strangers unconditionally. He loved woodworking, forever collecting tools and he was also the family’s mechanic. Mike graduated from Lancaster High School Class of 1968 and then served his country as a jet engine technician in the United States Air Force in Vietnam. Mike also worked at Anchor Hocking Glass Corporation and Lancaster Electro Plating.
He is survived by his siblings, Jenny (Charles) Alexander, Sherry Magnuson, Dennis (Martha) Rutter, Candy (Roger) Irvin, Sandy (Steve) O’Toole, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Rutter Jr and mother Marjorie Rutter, sister Vickie Finney, paternal grandparents Oscar Rutter, Sr. and Mary Roe Rutter and step-mother Margaret Rutter, maternal grandparents Fred and Myrtle Stiverson.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Knollwood Cemetery, Cheiftain Drive, Logan, OH 43138 with Pastor Dave Sherman officiating. The Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail Conduct Military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the service at Victory Hill, 4000 Coonpath Road NW, Carroll, OH 43112. Arrangements are being handled by the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, LANCASTER, OHIO.
