Michael Leroy Rempe

Michael Leroy Rempe, 85, of Bremen passed away at the Picking House on May 30, 2024. He was born to the late Lorene and Theodore Rempe on March 28, 1939 in Lancaster, OH. 

As a boy, Michael attended St. Mary School, and served as an alter boy at the church. After high school Michael served his country as a Marine during the Korean War in Okinawa.  Upon returning home, Michael worked as a machinist for Anchor Hocking, where he was also a union president and executive chairman of the Anchor Hocking local unions. When he wasn’t working, Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and showing his custom built Ford truck, “Purple Power”. Michael had a kind heart and won the “Golden Apple” award for volunteering thousands of hours at the Logan food pantry. 

He is survived by his wife, Dee Rempe; children, Melissa (Mark) Sladoje, Randal (Patti) Smith, and Malinda (Rob) Carter; grandchildren, Greyson Rempe, Mandy (Jeff) Kasza;  Sonya Andres, Janae Smith, Robin (Ryan) Kruger, Misty Smith, Jennifer Smith, Rebecca (Paul) Conkle, Jeremiah (Holli Jo) Smith, Micah (Colleen) Nungesser, Shariah (Bizzy) Teklu, and Karah (Grant) Nungesser; several great and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his sons, Michael Joseph (Meghan) Rempe, John Wayne Smith, and Mitchell Alan Smith; brother, Dave (Sunny) Rempe; and parents.

A funeral service officiated by pastor Marsha Ashbaugh will be held on Tuesday,  June 4, 2024 at 11 AM at the Living Word Church, 3860 OH-37, Junction City, OH 43748. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Bremen. Family and friends may visit from 2-4 PM and again from 6-8 PM at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 405 N Columbus St., Lancaster, OH on Monday, and again from 10-11 AM at the church on Tuesday.
