Michael Larry Benson, Sr.

Michael Larry Benson, Sr. 84 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 8, 1940 in Fairfield County to the late Howard and Norma Benson.

He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the US Army and a retired painter for DKR Builders. Michael enjoyed model train collecting of all types, like listening to Bleu Grass and Gospel Music and loved his family.

Michael is survived by his wife of 32 years, Randy Benson; children, Michael (Tina) Benson, Jr. of Fairborn, April Benson of Hillsboro, Matt (Stacey) Benson of W. Portsmouth, Andrew (Jennifer) Benson and Howard Benson all of Hillsboro; two stepsons, Jim (Janet) Copen and Heath Copen all of Lancaster; 23 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Susie (Thuron) Daugherty of Rushville; brother, Harry (Kathy) Benson of Lancaster and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle “Missy” Benson, mother Norma Romine and father Howard Benson.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. in the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 405 N. COLUMBUS ST., LANCASTER, OHIO 43130 with Pastor Keith Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Carroll Cemetery and the Lancaster Veterans Burial Detail will conduct military rites at the cemetery. Friends may visit 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorial gifts may be given to the family c/o the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
