Michael Anthony Van Atta, 57, of Thornville, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016. He was born July 22, 1959, in Lancaster, Ohio.
Mike retired from Hopkins Printing in Columbus as Lead person in the Bindery Department after 23 years of employment. Mike enjoyed boating and fishing on Buckeye Lake, watching the OSU Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers, and spending time with his family and friends. His quick wit and humor will always be remembered by those who loved him.
Mike is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathryn “Kitty” Van Atta; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Brittany Van Atta; beloved dog, Gabby; brothers, William (Betty) Van Atta of La Plata, MD, Paul (Judy) Van Atta of Bremen, Robert (Barbara) Van Atta of Rushville, and John Van Atta of Bremen; sisters, Karen (Grant) Carpenter of Bremen, Mary Lou (Doug) McConnell of Bremen, and Barbara (Rick) Thomas of Rushville; brother-in-law, Thomas (DeAva) Page of Port Richey, Florida; and sisters-in-law, Ella Van Atta of Lancaster and Susan (Douglas) McCullough of Lancaster.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Van Atta; brothers, James, Richard, and Louis Van Atta; special aunts who raised him, Delores and MaryAnn Van Atta; and parents-in-law, William and Dorothy Page.
A memorial service will be held at 8:00 PM Friday at the FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster. Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Caring Cremation has taken place.
Through Michael’s generous eye donation, he is helping others to see more clearly.
